255 1930s Levisham

255 1930s Levisham

LNER Gresley 'D49/2' class 4-4-0 No. 255 'The Braes of Derwent'. Built at Darlington in Aug. 1932 and withdrawn in Nov. 1958 as BR No. 62742. This location will be very familiar to visitors to the NYMR. The sylvan surrounds of the North York Moors provide a wholly appropriate landscape for this 1930s photograph of 255 at Levisham Station. Perhaps the return to Levisham of a camping coach (as seen here) might be a worthwhile addition to the one already well patronised at Goathland?
