9F 1968-05 Hest Bank
In May 1968 an unidentified BR Riddles '9F' plods light engine northbound towards Carnforth. It is passing the crossing and box at Hest Bank Station.
This was one of my favourite palces to visit when staying with my Grandparents who lived in Morecambe. It had everything, a fine lattice footbridge to view the WCML expresses and freights. A signal box that was a hive of bellcode activity and a wonderful view of Morecambe Bay. A small shop just to the left of this view, once sold 'nettle beer', a similar brew to dandelion & burdock but once tasted never forgotten! Nor, I might add was the smell of the smoking dustbins...
