90281 1965-05-21 Wakefield Westgate

Riddles 'WD' class 2-8-0 No. 90281. Built by NBL of Glasgow in December 1943 as WD No. 77404 and withdrawn in June 1967.

By May 1965, the busy Wakefield Westgate Station was long overdue for modernisation. In 1967 some 'improvements' were made, but only the complete demolition and rebuilding of the station in 2014 finally brought Wakefield a station fit fot 21st Century use. Clad in layers of grime and rust, 90281 heads a lengthy freight through the 'old' Westgate towards Leeds in May 1965.
