84007 1953-09 Tutbury

BR Riddles 'Standard 3' class 2-6-2 Tank No. 84007. Built at Crewe in August 1953 and withdrawn in January 1964.

Taking the air for a few minutes at Tutbury Station is a crew member whose push-pull fitted 'Standard 3' has just brought in a 'local' passenger train. The large chimneys seen beside this former North Staffordshire Railway location belonged to one of the first factories to be built by NestlŽ in the UK in 1901. Milk was brought from neighbouring farms in metal churns on the back of a steam-powered wagon. It would leave in tin cans via the dedicated railway siding.
