BR Riddles 'Standard 2' class2-6-0 No. 78041. Built at Darlington in December 1954 and withdrawn in May 1967.

If the cabside number and front numberplate were removed from 78041 most enthusiasts would be unable to tell if it was a BR 'Standard 2' or an ex-LMS Ivatt '2MT'. The designs are so similar. This is the signature of a successful design in that it continues to be built, largely unchanged over the years. 78041 stands in a bay platform at Preston Station in the 1960s performing some station pilot duties.
