70003 1961-07-15 Scarborough MPD

A visiting 'Pacific' to the East Yorkshire resort of Scarborough was a rarity, so the appearance at the MPD in July 1961 of BR Riddles 'Standard Britannia' 4-6-2 No. 70003 'John Bunyan' was a notable occasion. Built at Crewe in March 1951 and withdrawn in March 1967.

70003 arrived on 1N25 8.10am Cardiff to Filey Holiday Camp, then worked ecs to Scarborough.

It is reported in Railway Observer August 1961 page 263.

Allen Ferguson of Bridlington is not sure but thinks that 1N25 probably changed locos at Rotherham Masboro, if not there than at Gascoigne Wood just outside Selby.

70003 had been transferred from Norwich to March earlier in July 1961.
