68345 1962-07 Kipps
With its ugly stovepipe chimney, J88 No 68345 had a unique notoriety. It was on hire to a local colliery in 1956 when its standard NBR chimney suffered an accident which resulted in a new fabricated one being fashioned at the colliery. Despite a subsequent overhaul at Cowlairs, the stovepipe was retained to the end. It was at Kipps in July 1962 and was the final survivor of the class when withdrawn 5 months later.
