10203 1959-08-29 Derby works-ROneg-1710-172
The last of the class of just three , and the only one constructed at Brighton Works , 10203 was more powerful than her two younger sisters with an upgraded 2000 h.p. power unit , being allocated to the Southern Region's Nine Elms Depot from new in March of 1954 from where she worked the Waterloo to Exeter Central express passenger services before being transferred to the London Midland Region and its Camden Depot in July of 1955 , a month after her two sisters had also been so transferred .br/ Initially rostered to duties on the West Coast main line the transfer of the three former Southern Region Diesels saw them relegated to less demanding freight and local services within the Rugby and Northampton areas following their transfer from Camden to Willesden in the late ' fifties .br/ Train heating problems took the three away from passenger rosters in the Autumn and Winter months as the years passed , and lenghy periods were spent out of use , mainly at Derby , as seen in this view , with increasing maintenance needs finally resulting in all three being withdrawn in February of 1968 .
