Two lines used to branch from the South Western Main Line; north west to Wimborne then Hamworthy Junction upon which the freight is running, and and south west to Lymington Town and Quay on the left.

The line from which this freight is coming is part of the original Southampton and Dorchester Railway, 'Castleman's Corkscrew' - the line straight on via Sway to Bournemouth from here was, of course, built later. There was also direct access to Poole and Bournemouth via Wimborne by means of the line used by the S&D from Broadstone to Holes Bay Junction, Poole - used in fact by this train for which the headcode indicates Bournemouth Central (probably Bournemouth Central goods) and Brockenhurst via Wimborne.
