Ex-Midland Railway Johnson '2P' class 4-4-0 No. 40461. Built at Derby in Sepember 1894 as MR No. 163 and withdrawn in February 1959.

Birmingham New Street Station sees 40461, a very typically ex-Midland Railway 4-4-0 with a 3-coach 'local'. Damned with the adjective 'adequate', the Midland's express motive power never really made the leap of increased capability into the post-grouping era and beyond.
