A most unusual (for the era) photograph taken in May 1938 as the photographer's train is passing through the huge cutting at Roade in Northamptonshire.

The approaching train that he has captured most effectively is piloted by ex-Midland Railway Johnson '2P No. 534 whilst the train locomotive is an unidentified LMS Fowler 'Patriot'. 534 was built at Derby in July 1899 and was withdrawn in July 1959 as BR No. 40534 completing a remarkable 60 years of service.
