This rebuilt Midland Railway 2P 4-4-0 is a fine sight in its new lined black livery after being outshopped from the Works in 1949, although Midland enthusiasts would undoubtedly squirm at the sight of one of 'their' engines in what was effectively LNWR lined black. No.40443 was allocated to Stafford shed and stayed there until transferred to Saltley in March 1957; it was withdrawn from Toton in January 1961.
