GWR Star class 4-6-0 No 4061 Glastonbury Abbey reverses into Shrewsbury station before departing with a slow train to Chester on July 16, 1953.

Peter Kerslake says "Although Shrewsbury was the limit for Western Region engines working up on the "West to North" expresses their locomotives did, however, run northwards to Chester and Birkenhead, and 4061 "Glastonbury Abbey" seen here in this fine picture is running back on to its stock for just such a working.
Allocated to Wolverhampton Stafford Road at this period in time 4061 was destined to be one of the two "Stars" in service, survivng until March of 1957 with just Bristol's 4056 "Princess Margaret" outliving 4061 by just seven months.
Shrewsbury station's distinctive water hose, extending over from the platform to the through road, is just visible on the extreme right, so designed in order to permit locomotives to take water whilst awaiting arrival on that road of their trains from the West. "
