1623 1920s York Station

1623 1920s York Station

Ex-North Eastern Railway W.Worsdell 'M' (LNER 'D17') class 4-4-0 No. 1623. Built at Gateshead in May 1893 as NER No. 1623 and withdrawn in May 1932.

The use of the tender for displaying the locomotive's number indicates that this steamy scene featuring 1623 at the North end of York Station, was taken in the 1920s. I think this is a train for Ripon (where there is a racecourse) judging by the horse box behind the loco. An alternative location could be Catterick for the same reason! What's the betting...?
