NER 6xx 1923 Scarborough Falsgrave

North Eastern Railway Worsdell 'W1' (LNER 'A6') class 4-6-2 Tank number unknown. Class of 10 locomotives built at Gateshead in 1907-8 as 'W' class 4-6-0 Tanks and rebuilt to 4-6-2 wheel arrangement 1914-17. The last of the class, BR No. 69796 was withdrawn in March 1953.

The high retaining wall at Scarborough Falsgrave proved an irresistable canvas for advertisers by 1923 when the ubiquitous 'Oxo'and 'Bovril' were competing with the most decidedly undrinkable 'Jeyes Fluid'. Also on display is Maple & Co's advert for their 'Fine Furnishings', they proclaim London & Paris as their locations - not much ruddy use in Scarborough then?
