NER 112 1905-03-19 Bradford Forster Square

North Eastern Railway McDonnell '38' class 4-4-0 No. 112. Built at Gateshead in Oct. 1884 and withdrawn in March 1915. The Midland Railway built their impressive terminus and hotel at Forster Square, Bradford, a shared facility with the NER. A McDonnell '38' class awaits departure in March 1905. As CME of the NER, Alexander McDonnell's 2-year tenure (ending in resignation) was not a happy one. He made minor but unwanted changes to long-held traditions such as changing the chimney style and abandoning cylinder drain cocks much to the dismay of the footplatemen.
