Peter Kerslake says "The fireman on this 2884 class 2-8-0 looks to be taking it easy as they drop down through Pilning with a load of empty wagons bound for the Severn Tunnel and South Wales.
This view shows each of the up and down freight lines with the passenger lines in the centre, and the difference in the height and gradients of the eastbound and westbound lines, so evident further up the line at Patchway, is no longer apparent here, closer to the tunnel."
