3849 1958-04-09 Birmingham Snow Hill

Up freight at Birmingham Snow Hill, view NW, towards Wolverhampton, Normally freight trains would come through here on the Through lines, but this Class H coming out of the tunnel from Hockley has been accepted along the main Up platform line. The first vehicle is a Banana Van, probably returning empty, followed by a couple of wooden bodied opens probably carrying loco coal – they certainly are good sized lumps. The locomotive is '38xx' class 2-8-0 No. 3849 built in June 1942 and served until May 1965, latterly from Croes Newydd, a DMU is just visible stabled in the carriage sidings.
