2883 1951-05-31 Pangbourne

A Thames Valley panorama, with Up freight train approaching Pangbourne, viewed northward, towards Didcot. The Class H freight is headed by Churchward '2800' class 2-8-0 No. 2883. The Thames is in the trees towards the right, Basildon is off to the left; the A329 Reading - Wallingford road is just on the Thames side of the railway here, which the road crosses top-left by an awkward dog-leg bridge which was still (2011) operated one-way with traffic-lights. It is nearly June and the chestnut tree are in bloom compare this to 2019 when they reached the same stage on April 25th. What a wonderful panorama!
