3823 1960s Gloucester Central
With a train of hoppers that would be at home in the NE Region
Peter Kerslake says "Comparing this picture with my own photographs from this location it's rather difficult and I cannot be absolutely sure but I would think that this working is heading down into South Wales , the iron ore hoppler wagons appear to be loaded rather than being empties .
The covered overbridge linking Central station here with the former Midland Region station at Eastgate over on the right is visible in the background.
Severn Tunnel Junction shed was still open to steam at this period in time , and these iron ore workings saw a variety of Western and Midland Region engines rostered on them , ranging from many Standard 9F 's , to " Halls " , 8F's and , as shown here , Western Region 28XX classes."
