3813 1950s Northfield

3813 1950s Northfield

An Oxley ‘2884’ 2-8-0 No.3813 on the Up goods line at Northfield. The signal box, which is in the south or Barnt Green side of the station, is largely obscured by the engine, while the goods sidings are to the left. The train will have come from either Worcester or Gloucester and would be heading for Washwood Heath Up sidings, Lawley Street or Water Orton. The picture was almost certainly taken after the lines south of Barnt Green were transferred to the Western Region in 1958.

Ed Purcell says " This is extremely rare. Halls, Granges yes, but I have never come across a 2-8-0 on this line before."
