Peter Kerslake says "Taken at the very top of Hemerdon Bank on a Saturday. Looking eastwards, a down freight has the signal from Hemerdon Summit box to drop down the 1 in 42 grade with Severn Tunnel Junction's 2872 at the head. It is on the down main line, not having been put into the loop so looks s though it has had a through run. The Western flanks of Dartmoor are visible on the horizon. 2872 has not yet been fitted with outside steam pipes."
