2852 1958-04-02 Swindon
Waiting to take over a train.
A splendid picture of Swindon allocated 2852 from 1958 .
My records show that following her withdrawal 2852 was sold to Coopers Metals of Swindon and arrived at their Sharpness breaker's yard on the Gloucestershire bank of the River Severn on the 20th . July of 1964 , being towed there from Gloucester in company with 2842 and 4701 by 1445 , one of Gloucester's surviving " 1400 " class .
Whether or not 2852 was actually disposed of at Sharpness I do not know , but I photographed her there a month later on 23rd. August , 1964 .
Coopers did not dispose of all the condemned locomotives they had at Sharpness , selling on a number to South Wales dealers , possibly due to the fact that it was a small yard with a limited workforce.
