This was my regular service between Stalybridge and Hull to and from University at this time. It was not a good idea to sit in the Metro-Cammell driving trailer at the rear for a journey of this length! This was typical of the standard of the secondary Inter-City routes at this time.br/ Peter hall adds quot;There were three spare 'Trans-Pennine' Cars in the fleet (DMC, MBSK TSL). I wonder if this formation is explained by those being pressed into use with what Driving vehicle was available to form an extra setquot;br/ Allistair Taylor explains quot;The spare Pennine vehicles were used as for maintenance purposes and allowed vehicles to interchanged. At the time of this photo there was a shortage of SE4 gearboxes and Albion engines, so Botanic Gardens would substitute a DMC from a 104 or 101. It was also not unusual to see a 101 DMBS and DTCL stuck in place of a Pennine DMC and MBSLquot;
