DMU M55012 1975 Stourbridge Town
Gloucester Railway Carriage Wagon Company single unit No.W55012 at Stourbridge Town in the early 1970s in a picture which contrasts sharply with the one above. The goods line has been lifted, the platform canopies and the ‘Iron Mink’ van body have gone but the chocolate and cream enamel sign is still there. The station was demolished in 1979 to make space for a new bus station but the line was not closed and a ‘bus shelter’ and ticket office was built a few yards down the now slightly curtailed line. The branch was again shortened slightly and another new station built in 1994; the line has been worked since2009 by two ‘Class 139’ Parry People-mover units which are powered by stored flywheel energy.
