The station looks a bit battered. 60502 still has LNER on her tender.

Now 60502, " Earl Marishal " shows off her massive bulk in this view at York and she was the third of the six in her class emerging from Doncaster Works in June of 1944 .
Classified as A2 / 2 by the L.N.E.R. the six were rebuilds of Sir Nigel Gresley's 1934 to 1936 "P 2" class 2-8-2 design which had been introduced for service between Edinburgh and Aberdeen although their bulk proved their undoing , with their main frames suffering as a result , and Edward Thompson's rebuilds were also initially allocated to Depots within Scotland to work the same route before moving south of the border in late 1949 to York and Peterborough .
The design was not regarded as Edward Thompson's best , however , and the locomotives gained a reputation for slipping badly on starting , and were not well thought of by their footplate crews.
60502 was withdrawn in July of 1961 , the last survivor of her class.
