6814 1959-07-31 Dainton

GWR Grange 4-6-0 No 6814 Enborne Grange on a down goods banked by 4105 at Dainton summit on July 31, 1959.

Peter Kerslake adds "If there is a banker at the tail of this working it will have assisted from Aller Junction but will now drop away as 6814 is now on the down grade, the steepness of which is apparent from the fact that the siding lines on the right are actually on the level!
The black rectangular fitment on the white post to the left of the tunnel mouth is a mirror, angled for the signal man to see the rear of workings going into the tunnel and ensure that their tail lamp is in place with nothing having been lost on the climb up from Totnes."
