LNWR Engineer Bangor 1920s Bangor MPD

LNWR Engineer Bangor 1920s Bangor MPD

London & North Western Railway Ramsbottom 'Samson' class 2-4-0 'Engineer Bangor'. Built at Crewe in August 1879 as L&NWR No. 1166 'Wyre' and withdrawn in December 1925.

The London & North Western Railway allocated a number of superannuated locomotives for the use of divisional enguneering managers. Their former nunbers and names were removed and replaced with an 'Engineer xxxx' cabside nameplate. The ancient 1879 built 'Samson' class 2-4-0 'Engineer Bangor' is seen there in 1922. Other locations with 'Engineer' locos included South Wales, Liverpool, Lancaster, Manchester, Northampton, Bedford and (of course!) Crewe.
