30905 1962-08-02 Southampton Terminus Station

With the unique self trimming tender only transferred to it from 30932 in 1958 for the last few months of its life.
It was built in 1938 as a one-off and attached to 932 Blundells which kept it until August 1958 when Ashford works accidentally painted the tender green (Blundells being in lined black). It was then transferred to 30905 as it was a green engine and stayed with it to withdrawal. Two other Schools ran with self trimming tenders, these being 30912 and 30921 which were acquired near the end of their careers in 1961 off withdrawn Nelsons 30865 and 30854. (5000 gallon bogie affairs) They too kept them until withdrawal but only for a few months.
