30934 1950s leaving Folkestone Junction towards Dover

30934 1950s leaving Folkestone Junction towards Dover

The loco headcode indicates Charing Cross - Ramsgate/Margate via Tonbridge and Dover. The signalbox and water column are South Eastern Railway style. There are other clues to the location - starter signal and its position between the first coach and signalbox. Also this appears to be 'on' despite the train leaving, but this starter in fact had three arms - the main arm for straight on to Dover (which is hidden by the box) and two turnout arms for the two Folkestone Junction boat train reception roads to enable reversal for the Harbour. The signal to the left of the loco buffer beam is the Harbour branch home signal for the reversal roads and you can just about make out the trackwork of the turnout for the reversing roads crossing the up main. The track passing the right hand side of the signalbox is the entrance to loco shed.
