70032 1961c Crewe Works

When allocated to Willesden and with minimal overhead warning signs fittedWaiting to be reunited with its tender 70032 Tennyson is resplendent in its new colours following overhaul here at Crewe Works, the engine having been allocated to Willesden in January1961 following transfer from a year at Manchester's Trafford Park .Originally allocated from being newly built in December1952 to Holyhead it was there for just one month before going to Manchester's Longsight where it remained for seven years before the move to Trafford Park in February1960 mentioned above .In common with virtually all the Britannias in service Tennyson ended its days at Carlisle, being withdrawn from Kingmoor in December1966 .Whilst so much publicity was given in their early days to the Britannias on the Easter and Western Regions those allocated from new to Midland Region Depots seem to have been quietly accepted by the footplate men at Holyhead and the like as acceptable companions for their familiar and well regarded Royal Scots and Patriots .
