779 1949-06-22 Swansea East Dock

The sight of small 0-4-0 steam 'Pugs' working in Britain's many docks, harbours and shipyards is now long consigned to the history books. They featured small radius wheelbases, ideally suited to the tight curves encountered. Unusually for a location in GWR territory, Swansea Docks railway system was operated independently by contractors Powlesland & Mason. GWR 779 is at Swansea East Dock in June 1949. It was built by Peckett & Co. of Bristol in Sept. 1916 as P&M No. 4. and was acquired by the GWR in 1924 becoming No. 779 and was withdrawn in Aug. 1963 as BR No. 1151.
