1507 1963-08-11 Old Oak Common

A superb shot of Hawksworth's 1507 at what must be the final year of its life , seen here at Old Oak Common where so many of the class of ten were allocated at one time or another , although in the mid ' fifties 1507 is shown as being one of two of the class allocated to 86B ., which was Newport Pill .
This fine photograph shows clearly the massive front overhang of the locomotive body ahead of the leading axle , a feature of the class which made them unsteady at anything over a very modest speed , and rendered them unsuitable for working passenger duties .
They were , however , very strong little engines , well remembered for running between Paddington and Old Oak carriage sidings with substantial sets of empty stock , and well liked by their crews
