One of Holbeck's long-term allocation and later a favourite Alberta enters the station with an important express, probably the Down Thames Clyde running without a nameboard (but it does have carriage boards). Note the trap in the forground, unusually for the Midland without a buffer stop. There is a long rake of cattle wagons in the yard, perhaps awaiting to be 'called forward' to Heysham to serve a load of imported Irish beef.
