45700 1961 Preston

45700 1961 Preston

Ex-LMS Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0 No. 45700 'Amethyst'. Built at Crewe in April 1936 as LMS No. 5700 and withdrawn in July 1964.

Departing in fine style from Preston in 1961 is 'Amethyst', the only 'Jubilee' to have a name tranferred to another class. Originally 45700 was named 'Britannia', this was removed in February 1951 until she received her 'Amethyst' name in September of that year. Seen on the left is the building of motor traders E. Bradshaw's who had a long-established Ford motor dealership in Marsh Lane.
