Peter Kerslake says "This view illustrates how the Lickey bank dropped so steeply from here at the summit at Blackwell, but now it's all so overgrown, and Blackwell station is no more. There was a permanent "Brakesman" stationed at Blackwell in the days of steam, his job being to assist the guards of freights working down the bank in pinning down the brakes on the wagons, and I suspect that little hut on the left was his "official residence", with the notice warning all freights to stop seen here on the left. That hut was rather more substantial than it appears in this view, but its impressive chimney can be seen".
