45679 1961c Manchester Exchange

45679 1961c Manchester Exchange

With a Siphon G in the view, Longsight Jubilee 45679 Armada heads east through the very north side of the train shed. After two months there it went to Newton Heath in June 1960 until withdrawn at the end of 1962. The Jubilee had this Fowler 3,500 gallon snap head riveted tender from March 1953 onwards. It received the large St.Rollox type 10" cab numbers in 1953 and the post-1956 BR crest is also of a large size to match.
The train is probably the 8.55am Windermere-Manchester Exchange departing from Platform 5 ECS to Cheetham Hill carriage sidings although the headlamps have not been changed. It would have worked in via Pendleton, Wigan, Tyldesley and Eccles. After sxervicing at Newton Heath 45679 would work the 5.10pm return to Windermere over the L&YR route to Hindley and then over the Whelly line.
