5568 1938-01-22 Oakley Junction
This is the following day's aftermath of a fatal collision at Oakley Junction in Bedfordshire. The accident, that cost the lives of three passengers and injured eight more, took place on Friday 21st January 1937. A signalman's error was the cause. The 14:10 St Pancras to Bradford with driver H.Hudson of Bradford, was due to pass the junction at 15:00 but collided with a carriage shunting movement that had been erroneously allowed into it's path. 1934 built No. 5568 'Western Australia' was repaired and eventually had a thirty year career being withdrawn in 1964.
