45738 1955 Stechford
Bushbury Jubilee No.45738 Samson roars through Stechford bound for Euston in 1955 on The Midlander. This restaurant car express was introduced in October 1950 and was the fastest steam-hauled service between the first and second cities, taking a little over two hours at its best in 1958, over thirty minutes less than in 1950. On the left behind the water tower is Stechford No.1 signal box and on the right are the Up marshalling sidings.
Ed Purcell adds "The brackets on the nearer line are for New Street (taller) and the Aston line (shorter). In the distance can be seen the mainline home and distant both off for the Midlander. To their right is the bracket allowing movement from the Aston line to the main line or to the up slow on the other face of the platform where the wagons .As the up Aston line signal is off the wagons are probably moving past under that signal's control. Whitewashed platform edges and stones on the platform show a bit of care by the staff."
