45717 1961-05 Crewe Works

45717 1961-05 Crewe Works

In for repair not scrapping, I can see 5717 on the cylinder which normally means a repair is planned, although it was later stored there in November 63.

Details from Vic Smith:
45717 entered Crewe Works 8/5/61 for a Heavy Intermediate overhaul, emerging on 14/6/1961 fitted with a speedometer (which is not carried here). It returned again from 23/10/61 – 2/11/61 for AWS to be fitted.
Behind is a Coronation (with straight footplate) The only one entering the works around that date was 46229, which entered the works on 13/5/61 for a Heavy Classified, emerging on 13/6/61.
Confirmation of the locos identity as 46229 can be seen in Jim Carters other photo:-

So therefore the date is between 13 May 1961 and 13 June, and as both locos are on the 'resection' roads most likely to be mid May.
