Approaching Black Rock, near Stalybridge, having just left the southern portal of Scout Tunnel. Above the terraced houses on the A635 Manchester Road can be seen the bridge at the north end of Millbrook sidings. Palethorpes sausage vans added a bit of colour to the scene. They worked, mainly on fixed diagrams, from the Dudley area.

David Beilby says " A gorgeous shot from an unusual angle. This is almost certainly the Bradford to Stockport train which regularly included a Palethorpes van but the big surprise to me is to see a Jubilee hauling it, as it was the preserve of 2-6-4Ts in my memory. This train would pass here just before 5 o'clock and the light is right for that time of day. "
