‘Jubilee’ No. 45741 Leinster from Carlisle Upperby had AWS fitted in June 1959 and a Smith Stone speedometer which was installed in October 1960. This picture was taken after this, and while it was paired with a riveted 4,000 gallon tender which was replaced by the welded type in September 1963. The train is running under the Express Passenger headcode and consists of a Stanier Brake Third followed by at least 20 parcels vehicles, and so could be a newspaper train. Note the closed ex-Great Central Railway branch line from Lowton St Mary’s to St Helens Central on the horizon with the derelict signal box.
