45593 failed at Carlisle and was replaced by 70035.

Colin Ryder says " 45593 'Kolhapur' of Leeds Holbeck (55A) is on the final stretch of the Shap Incline and about to enter the top cutting before the summit.

The white sign with black cast iron letters on a dark-coloured post that the first coach is passing reads “CATCH POINTS” and is of LNWR origin. The catch point itself on the near-side rail is just visible as a darker rust colour by the coach’s rear bogey. The two longer sleepers supporting the catchpoint can just be seen protruding from the ballast opposite the signpost.

From Tebay to Shap summit there were four sets of catch points, and this is the last of the four that the train will have crossed over. They were originally designed as a safety feature to control run-away wagons in case of a breakage of a link on loose-coupled freight trains.

By the last coach of the train can be seen the distant signal for the Shap Summit Outer Home on its black & white post, the standard paint pattern for LMS tubular isolated distant signals (originally installed between 1939 and 1946).
