45699 1950s Blackwell
There is a wealth of period detail to see in this superb 1950s photograph. Ex-LMS Stanier 'Jubilee' No. 45699 'Galatea' is breasting the summit of the famed Lickey Incline at Blackwell in Worcestershire.
The signals, signs, gas lamp, quarter milepost and the lovely railway crossing and keeper's cottage are but a fraction of the railway scene that has forever been consigned to history. We must be thankful that this unknown photographer was on hand to immortalise it in celluloid and that 'Galatea' was saved for posterity!
