A resplendent Stanier 'Princess Royal' 8P 4-6-2 at Crewe North Locomotive Depot
Only five months after Nationalisation, No. 6210 Lady Patricia is still in LMS livery. (Lady Patricia was the daughter of Prince Arthur of Connaught, third son of Queen Victoria; she gave up her title as Princess when she married a commoner). Seems bizairre that a massive engine like a Princess Royal would require a grotty sprag of wood to stop it rolling away! The two ex LNWR tenders have been converted for something, perhaps the cable is for re-fuelling diesel shunters? I could think of no other reason why they would be on Crewe North shed although the shunters were based at Crewe South.
