No 6205 Princess Victoria at Kings Langley with the Up ‘Merseyside Express’ in 1938. It had been radically modified earlier that year with the outside gear driving the inside valves via rocking levers, instead of the four sets of motion previously used. The rocking levers were attached to the outside valve spindles behind them, but the rocking arms were driven from the front of the valve spindles. Massive tripod shaped motion brackets had to be provided to accommodate the increased strain on the outside valve gear by the need to drive four valves.
