Seen from the wonderful vantage point provided by the footbridge at the Northern end of Crewe Station on the 1st. of June 1956 is Liverpool Edge Hill 's 46208 , " Princess Helena Victoria " seen backing down from Crewe North Shed in order to work back home with the 8.a.m. from Plymouth , due here into Crewe at 3.49. p.m. and departing at 4.0 p.m.

Peter kerslake says "My couple of days spent at Crewe in late May and early June of 1956 produced a wealth of splendid photographs , with the light seemingly in just the right quarter in the afternoons, and the footbridge at the northern end of the station providing such a splendid point from which to see and record everything of interest below .
I made the daily trip from my relatives at Leigh during my week spent with them from my Plymouth home , travelling from Leigh firstly by ' bus to Manchester and then onwards by rail to Crewe , my return train on one of the days being hauled by none other than our own Laira shed's 70016 " Ariel " , running in after passing through Crewe Works.
Fortunately by this time my earlier Roll Film cameras had been replaced by a 35mm Finetta with its increased capacity" .
