The masts of the Rugby radio station at Hillmorton can be seen in the background of this picture showing 46204 Princess Louise with a fourteen coach express around 1949 or 1950. The pre-war LMS crimson was already well past its best but the engine was not repainted until 1952. Its BR number had been applied in May 1948 using a Gill Sans smokebox door plate and 10in 1946 style LMS cabside numerals. The locomotive still carried a domeless boiler, replaced by a domed example in late 1950, and had its original outside cylinders with sighting plugs.
