69274 1954-04 Chester Northgate MPD

The locomotives of the erstwhile Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway are not often seen in print in spite of being excellent if unremarkable engines. This April 1954 portrait features a Thomas Parker 'N5/2' 0-6-2 Tank No. 69274 in the yard at Chester Northgate MPD. The 1891-built prototype of the class was the first British locomotive to be fitted with a Belpaire firebox.
