The first double-chimney A3 Pacific No 60097 Humorist, with Thompson style smoke deflectors, approaches Coal Town of Balgonie with the 4.15pm Edinburgh Waverley to Aberdeen express in c1955. The spoil or slag heap (Bing in Scotland) belongs to Balgonie Colliery which was situated between the Leven and Aberdeen main line, just north of Thornton Junction.
